Pandemics Threats: Preparing for a Pandemic Outbreak

Over on Off Grid Survival is a post on the H7N9 Bird Flu virus. It is a flu virus that previously only affected avian (bird) populations, but has begun to spread among humans.  It was previously thought that the virus was not able to be passed through human-to-human transmission, but that is now being looked into more thoroughly since over half of the infected people had no contact with poultry.

However, I think the most valuable bit of information in the post is a link to another post on the Off Grid Survival site about what you can do to protect yourself from a pandemic outbreak.  This post reviews some history of recent major pandemics.  Also is discussed how likely a new major pandemic is and what you can do to protect yourself.
Here are some tips:
  • Start Stockpiling Emergency Supplies
  • Social Distancing is the Key to Avoiding the Outbreak
  • Stay Clean and Practice Good Hygiene
  • Hospitals and Shelters Should Be Avoided
  • When Venturing Out, Wear a Mask
Today’s world is prime for a pandemic. The way we live, travel, and buy our food makes us more susceptible to pandemics than any time during the history of mankind.  Remember, most experts say it’s not if it will happen; but when. Be ready!
