Off Grid Cooking

Over on Survival Blog.com is a great post on off grid cooking solutions. Two specific cooking "tools" are discussed. First, using a thermal cooker. The idea of thermal cooking is that you heat up the food using a heat source, then you put it in the thermal cooker, which is an insulated container, that keeps the heat in so that it continues to cook the food without using any more fuel from your heat source. It can be a fantastic way to save fuel, and can also be used to cook food "on the go."
A rocket stove is another great off grid cooking solution.  A rocket stove is a small wood stove that burns fuel hot and efficiently and is great for cooking on.  The design of the rocket stove allows it to be effective using much less wood than a traditional fire, being able to cook food with 3-6 fourteen inch sticks that are only and inch or two in diameter.  Used in tandem, a rocket stove and a thermal cooker can be a great way to cook just about anything with no electricity!
